The
first true PAT comic. Jokes all over the place, some of them funny.
Lots of in-jokes in this one. They are:
"Vlad
Smith", the dude who thinks he's a vampire was inspired by
a guy that went to my college that did in fact think he was one
of the undead. Nice guy if you overlook that tiny fact. Wonder if
he still thinks so. Jesus, I wonder if the poor guy's even still
alive, what with all the slayers and sunlight.
The
"cool guest star" was from a neighboring comic strip called
WORLD OF PEZ. It was an odd little piece of art featuring many a
pez dispenser saying creepy things and shooting each other. But
I will say it was the best prentenious pez dispenser comic strip
since BEETLE BAILEY.
Bob
Timony and Pete Timony were two twins that also had comic strips.
One (let's call him Bob) drew one called SIR ROLAND, about a crazy
Knight who got in all sorts of crazy misadventures and usually spent
the last panel of the strip nursing some kinda insane headwound
from a wacky anvil accident or outta site moat mishap. That's Sir
Roland on their shirt. The other (let's also call him Bob, as they
were identical twins and who cares at this point) wrote and drew
A ZOMBIE AND HIS DOG. Every damn strip the zombie would lose an
arm in someone's soup or something.
The
word "chadinthoa" written under one of their arms was
something I heard them yell when they were on the roof of the dorms
bein' wacky. Please note one Timony brother is EXCITED (exclamation
point over his head) while the other is CONFUSED (question mark
over his head).
Postscript
to this comic: They hated me for it. One of them hunted me down
(with the vampire-guy in tow, actually, who loved his comic appearance...he
was probably just excited to see himself in print, after years of
not being unable to be photographed or appear in mirrors) and proceeded
to growl at me (yes, growl) and then tell me that the comic was
an insult to their individuality. I was going to point out that
I did say they had different personalities (after all, one was EXCITED
and one CONFUSED) but I knew I had no right to make fun of them,
really. Here were two kids that I had never talked to and I had
to go and publicly mock them by drawing them as some kinda two headed
monster.
I apologized
for insulting their individuality and told him I'd make it up to
them. To this day I have no idea which brother it was. Does it matter,
really? Freaky twin freaks of freaky nature.
This
was also Mugsy's first appearance. Just so you know. And I guess
he won the "who should be Pat's sidekick" contest, as
he appeared in PAT from then on.
